Week of January 17, 2010 Morning Coffee
"One Dad I know uses what I call Post-ItŪ Note therapy on his
children. He leaves sticky Post-It Notes everywhere .in their lunch box,
inside their shoes, on top of their sandwich before he wraps it up. He
once went into his daughter's room, looking for his hammer, and on the
back of her bedroom door were every Post-It Note he'd ever given her -
over 250 in all with simple messages like 'Great job'.'I love you'.or
'You're special to me.' Do you think that girl knew, without a doubt, that
her Dad valued her and loved her? " - Jack Canfield
Week of January 4, 2010 Morning Coffee
I walked into my office this morning and found on my desk a beautiful framed message about the palm tree. It was a quote from Joel Osteen's book, It's Your Time. For this morning coffee my thought is exactly what I received this morning. With new resolutions know you have the ability to be a palm tree and bounce back from your situations and achieve your goals.
The Palm Tree
God designed the palm tree to bend but not break in high winds. The Palm tree can bend all the way over until its top touches the ground and still not break. They bounce right back. Biologists say that during a hurricane when the a palm tree is being bent and pushed over, its root system is actually strengthened by the stress which gives it new opportunities for growth.
Bend with hard times and then grow. That's what God says will happen to each of us, if we just stay in faith. Psalm 92:12 "The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree"
God chose palm trees because He knew there would be difficult times in which we would have to bend so we wouldn't break. He knew things would come against us, trying to steal our joy, our victory. So God said, "You will be like a palm tree, because I've got a bounce back in your spirit." The storms of life will come. The winds will blow. At times, it might look like you are finished, like it's all over for you. But just like the palm tree, when the storm is over, you will not stay down. You will bounce back and keep growing. The key is to develop a bounce-back mentality. When you get knocked down, don't stay down. Get up to fight another day. Disruptions happen. Disappointments hit. But pity parties are not the answer. When you are a bounce-back person, you know that every adversity, every setback is only temporary. It will not last forever. Weeping may endure for a night, but you know joy is coming in the morning. God is a God of restoration. Almighty God has put a bounce back in your spirit.
